The Universitat de les Illes Balears in Palma de Mallorca, Spain is a public law institution committed to public service, with legal personality and its own assets, that carries out the functions expressly attributed by the law. To this purpose, the UIB exercises its legal rights to perform the public service of higher education through research, teaching, and study, and executes the functions provided by Article 1 of Organic Law 6/2001 of December 21, on universities (LOU). Through its various faculties, departments, and institutes and through its teaching and research staff, the UIB has, among its objectives, research, teaching, and dissemination of knowledge in various fields. In order to fulfil its duties, the UIB must cooperate with other universities and institutions around the world to maintain and strengthen its universal character. In order to foster institutional relations, the UIB, in accordance with the provisions of Statutes article 147.1, will promote, in as much as possible, policies regarding Agreements and exchanges with other universities, research institutes, institutions, firms, etc., involving to this purpose in the present case, the Department of Private Law.
