The Framework Convention that governs the international research network “IP in Agriculture” provides that the purpose of this network “is to constitute an interdisciplinary Research Network committed with high quality research, not only at a basic level but also in the applied arena, in the field of Intellectual Property in Agriculture and other connected topics. Its main goal will be the development of joint research projects, as well as cooperation in other activities, like teaching and education, other research activities, scientific dissemination, consulting, etc.”
To that aim, “[c]ooperation between the institutions may include:
- Joint projects,
- Seminars, colloquia, and symposia,
- Publications,
- The exchange of teaching and research staff,
- Visits, and
- Other collaborative activities agreed upon by the parties.”
It mainly focuses its activity on “the following areas: Intellectual Property with a strong focus on Plant Variety Rights (PVR), Biotech patents, Plant Genetic Resources, Geographical Indications (GIs), Traditional Knowledge, GM Agriculture, Competition Law and Unfair Competition Law in Agriculture (in a broad sense), Organic Farming, etc.”
